About the sessions:
- Meet at our blue “Hut” in Mayflower Marina
-
Thursdays run 4.30 pm – 7.00 pm After Easter until October half term
-
Saturdays run 9.00 am – 12.00 pm (excluding school summer holidays)
- We ask for a voluntary donation of £2 per session – but we’re happy for you to pay what you can afford
Newcomers often start off in a Hawk 20 with a qualified Skipper and Crew with up to 3 other young people like in the picture above
- You can learn the basics on the Hawk 20 and then when we agree you’re ready, you could sail with a more experienced sailor on a one of our smaller dinghies
- Sailing is always subject to suitable conditions (wind, tide and temperature) and we carefully monitor people’s skill level so that they are always sailing within their capability
- Our Safety Boats are there to keep a close watch on the session, and assist where needed
- Once people have completed the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 1 and 2 courses there could be the option to sail on their own
- There are plenty of opportunities for progression with our diverse fleet of dinghies, and the most experienced young people have the chance to sail our larger dinghies, the Bahia, Vago or Cat.
- You can see our boats here
RYA Sailing Courses
During the school summer holidays we run weekly RYA Sailing courses, using our fleet of dinghies and keelboats. The courses cover the RYA dinghy sailing scheme, from absolute beginners all the way up to the more advanced techniques and Assistant Instructor awards.
These courses can extend the experience earned on the Thursday and Saturday sessions.
