Eric Whitley, one of volunteers, will be doing a non-stop, 10km swim around the perimeter of Plymouth Sound. Starting and finishing at the shingle beach below The Terrace Café on the Hoe, the swim will involve crossing the mouth of the Plym and Tamar rivers, the eastern and western entrances to the Sound, and along Plymouth Hoe and Breakwater.
This is a personal challenge for him but is also a sponsored event for Horizons (Plymouth).
The event will take place on Sunday 9th August 2015. Route: Generally in a clockwise direction viewed from the air.
Leg 1: The Terrace Café on the Hoe, past Royal Corinthians Yacht Club, then across the Cattewater (Plm River)to Mount Batten Breakwater Pier.
Leg 2: Batten Breakwater Pier, across Jennyclffe Bay, to Fort Bovisand
Leg 3: Fort Bovisand harbour across the eastern entrance to the sound to the eastern tip of Plymouth Breakwater
Leg 4: Along Plymouth Breakwater, if weather conditions permit this will be on the outside(southern side)of the Breakwater
Leg 5: From Plymouth Breakwater western tip across the western entrance to the Sound to Fort Picklecombe
Leg 6: Fort Picklecombe to Wilderness Point in Mount Edgcumbe Country Park
Leg 7: Wilderness Point across the Tamar (The Narrows)to Devil’s Point in Stonehouse
Leg 8: From Devil’s Point across the entrance to Millbay and return to the beach below The Terrace Café on the Hoe.
