We’re recruiting for a Customer Service Assistant!
We are looking for a friendly, organised and proactive Customer Service Assistant to join our Horizons Plymouth team. This is a key front-facing role, supporting participants, families, volunteers and partners involved in the Horizons programme.
You will play an important part in creating a welcoming and positive experience for everyone who interacts with Horizons, while also providing vital administrative, operational and outreach support to the Programme and Outreach Coordinator.
This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, building relationships and contributing to a purpose-driven organisation supporting the Plymouth community.
Key Responsibilities
Administration and Front of House
- Work with the Programme and Outreach Coordinator to respond promptly to programme enquiries via email, phone, and in-person, making bookings as required.
- Assist with keeping programmes, booking systems and the website up to date
- Serve as a welcoming and informed point of contact for participants, families, volunteers and members of the public
- Produce and deliver communications to families, collecting impact data and feedback responses.
- Chandlery customer service including dealing with customer enquiries, assisting with stock management and selling goods
- Support the operational team by assisting with administration related to delivery including but not limited to; indemnity information, student registers, processing volunteer and staff paperwork
- Ensure the Horizons office, classrooms and associated facilities are well presented clean and well stocked
Fundraising and Outreach Support
- Assist with nominated local fundraising and supporter events and volunteer support
- Assist with impact reporting statistics and feedback collection
- Assist with networking and relationship building with the Royal Naval Community in the South West for Greenwich Hospital funded programmes.
- Work with with local partners, funders, schools, charities, individuals, families and community groups as appropriate to enable them to benefit from all Horizons programmes – both self-funded and charitable programmes.
- Represent Horizons Plymouth, the Andrew Simpson Foundation, and Greenwich Hospital–funded programmes at outreach events and visits to partner delivery centres across the Southwest.
Operational Support
- Assist with administrative support to the operational team including but not limited to; indemnity information and register, keeping the rota up to date with activities, volunteer and staff paperwork.
- Assist with volunteer communications and management
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Passion for working with a wide variety of groups and to enable inclusivity – essential
- Comfortable working with various computer programmes, including but not limited to Microsoft Office programmes – essential
- Full UK driving license – essential
- Experience in youth or charity setting – desirable
- Knowledge of the marine industry – desirable
- Ability to drive a lite minibus – desirable

The role is based on-site at our office and chandlery, working 5 days across the week, with a mix of weekday and weekend working.
