Fundraising and Support

At Horizons Children’s Sailing Charity, it costs around £12,000 every month to keep our programmes running and to deliver life-changing experiences for young people across Plymouth.

We do not receive any statutory funding from the Government or local authorities. Instead, we rely entirely on the incredible generosity of our community, grant funders, corporate partners, and individual supporters to make our work possible.

Every donation, sponsorship, and hour volunteered helps transform young lives, building confidence, resilience, and brighter futures through the power of sailing and outdoor adventure.

We are truly grateful for every supporter who helps us open up the water to all.

Ways to help with fundraising

Cash or BACS Donations

Cash or BACS donations help meet our essential core running costs, ensuring we can continue offering subsidised and inclusive sailing, motorboating and water sports activities to local young people.

If you are a UK taxpayer, you can Gift Aid your donation, allowing us to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give, at no extra cost to you.

Volunteer with us

Our ‘Volunteer Crew’ are the beating heart of Horizons.

While many of our volunteers support our sailing and marine based activities, we also need help with vital land-based roles, such as:

Driving our minibus to collect young participants
Supporting boat maintenance
Rigging and de-rigging boats
Supporting maintenance of our premises
Helping with fundraising, events, and publicity
Admin and community engagement support

Volunteering with Horizons not only helps build a stronger community, it’s also a fantastic way to develop your own skills, meet new people, and make a real difference in young people’s lives.
