We’re Hiring: Motorboat Skipper & Bosun
Overview:
Friendship is a 31ft accessible twin engine motor vessel specially adapted for wheelchair users and individuals with additional needs, Friendship provides a safe, stable, and welcoming platform for inclusive boating experiences. With easy-access boarding, accessible seating, and space for carers or support workers, Friendship enables children and adults of all abilities to enjoy the freedom and confidence-building benefits of time on the water.
This is a rewarding and varied part-time position working as part of a small, dedicated team delivering inclusive and meaningful experiences on the water for children, young people and adults.
Key Responsibilities:
- Friendship Skipper – deliver on water sessions with clients, ranging from regular club sessions to groups with SEND or group sessions for corporate or pleasure groups.
- Maintain Friendship ensure it remains safe, seaworthy and compliant with MCA coding. Ensure all resources on board Friendship are well looked after and fit for purpose.
- Produce and deliver annual upkeep and maintenance schedule working to a given budget.
- Train and supervise staff and volunteers to be skippers and support crew.
- Work with the local outreach team to promote and secure bookings with Plymouth based organisations who could make use of the vessel
Wider Responsibilities:
- Assist with and advise on the maintenance of the wider Horizons sailing and powerboat fleet
- Drive the Horizons minibus to facilitate groups coming to site to utilise Horizons resources.
Skills, experience and qualifications:
- Commercially endorsed RYA Powerboat Level 2 – essential (or the ability to get)
- Experience driving twin engine displacement craft – essential
- Passion for working with a wide variety of groups and to enable inclusivity – essential
- Ability to teach and train in a safe, positive way – essential
Hands-on, flexible and proactive approach – essential - D1 minibus driving license – desirable
- Experience in youth or charity setting – desirable
- Experience in / knowledge of outreach to schools and community groups – desirable
